With a population of 4.1 million, Alexandria, known as the ‘Pearl of the Mediterranean’, is the second-largest city in Egypt. Alexandria is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Choose to explore Alexandria, nearby Cairo, or head out into the desert for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the ancient pyramids and sphinx.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CAIRO

This day-long excursion takes the form of a 3-hour drive along the Desert Road to Cairo. We will visit the archaeological site in Gizah for an external view of the magnificent pyramids of Cheops, Chefren and Mykerino where you will also see the Valley Temple and the Sphinx. We’ll visit the Egyptian Museum to admire the collection of ancient findings that date back to the age of the Pharaohs and which include Tutankhamen’s treasure. The tour includes a stop in a typical Egyptian bazaar. Lunch included.

GIZAH, SAKKARA AND MEMPHIS

If you’ve never seen the Egyptian sights before, get ready for an unforgettable day out experiencing some of the world’s greatest monuments. The tour begins with a 3-hour drive along the the Desert Road to reach Cairo. We will see the magnificent pyramids in Gizah (exterior only), including Cheops, Chefren and Mykerino as well as admiring the Valley Temple and the mysterious Sphinx. Our next stop will be the ancient pyramid of Sakkara and a break at Memphis to admire the huge statue of Ramesses II. The tour includes time for souvenir shopping in a typical bazaar. Lunch included.

THE CITADEL, THE PYRAMIDS AND NILE RIVER CRUISE

Ideal for first-time visitors to Egypt, this excursion takes in all the main Egyptian sites; we will leave the port for a 3-hour drive to Egypt’s largest town, Cairo. Our first stop combines Saladin's Citadel and Mohamed Ali's Alabaster Mosque from where you will enjoy a lovely view of the town. Continue to the Nile for a pleasure cruise down the river with lunch onboard. Bus transfer to the Pyramids Plateau to admire the fabulous Pyramid of Giza. You will see the imposing pyramid of Chefren, the Sphinx and have time to take pictures and shop in a Papyrus Institute for authentic Egyptian souvenirs. After leaving your guide in town you will return to the port.

ROMAN HERITAGE OF ALEXANDRIA

Leave the port for a fascinating journey back in time, discovering the marvels of Alexandria. Our first stop will be the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa. Originally a private crypt, it was later extended due to more Roman burials and you can travel 80 feet underground to discover the eerie see tombs that date back to the 2nd century AD. Our next visit will be to Pompeii Pillar, a 27-metre tall column; with a confusing name, the pillar was raised in honour of Emperor Diocletian in 300 AD., who saved the city of Alexandria from a devastating famine. The excursion will continue with a sightseeing tour of Alexandria with panoramic views of the city’s key sites, including the Citadel. Short stop for shopping before returning to the port.

Please note: accessing the Catacombs requires descending many metres below ground via a spiral staircase and on slippery, often wet steps. Excursion not recommended for guests with mobility problems or for guests in a wheelchair.

 

 

 

HISTORY AND BEAUTY OF ALEXANDRIA

Discover the diverse beauty of Alexandria, from her museums to monuments, parks and palaces. We’ll leave the port and head to the National Museum where you can admire historic artefacts dating back to Greek and Roman times. Our next stop will take in the small Roman amphitheatre, built to accommodate 800 people. The tour continues in the beautiful Montazah Palace and Gardens where you can take a relaxing walk under the pines and palm trees. We may have time to see an exterior view of the summer residence of the former king, Farouk of Egypt. Short stop for shopping before returning to the port.

 

 

 

THE PYRAMIDS AND SAKKARA DESERT SAFARI

This day-long excursion takes you on a 3-hour drive through the Desert Road to Cairo. Our excursion will start with a panoramic view of the three pyramids of Gizah, the many burial monuments and the Temple Valley, home to the enigmatic Sphinx. Don’t forget your camera; this is a world-class destination with opportunities for super pictures that capture the unique atmosphere of grandeur and antiquity that pervade this special place. A short bus drive will transfer you to a local country club, where we will take a jeep adventure safari across the desert. Enjoy transport of an altogether different kind on the back of a camel as we travel by camel convoy to learn about the traditions of the native desert communities. We’ll have time for a delicious buffet lunch at Sakkara Country Club before continuing our tour at the imposing stepped pyramid of Sakkara. Time to shop before returning to the port of Alexandria.
