Catania, an historic city on the Italian island of Sicily is commonly known as the ‘Milan of the South’, however, contrasted with her northern Italian sister, Catania enjoys a sunny southern Mediterranean climate and is surrounded by orange trees and olive groves… and sits at the foot of Mount Etna. Although the early city of Catania was destroyed by earthquakes in 1169 and 1693, one can still see superb architecture, fascinating churches and monasteries here and in the surrounding towns.

THE BAROQUE STYLE OF CATANIA

Цена: € 45 на възрастен, € 32 на дете

Duration: approx. 4 hours

The city of Catania is situated on the eastern coast of Sicily at the foot of Mount Etna. This special and mainly coach-based sightseeing tour begins with drive-by calls at the predominantly Baroque Corso Italia and Via Etnea, two of Catania’s main shopping avenues. The city’s long and varied history is much in evidence and nowhere more so, perhaps, than at the Piazza Stesicoro, the original centre of Catania, along with its ruins of the Roman amphitheatre, which you will also visit as part of the first leg of the tour. Have your camera primed as you continue down the breathtaking Via Crociferi on foot. This will feel like a step back in time or onto a historical film set – and the three Baroque churches are stupendous. You will have time for a cathedral visit and some shopping before returning to your ship.

Please note: the visit to the Cathedral is depending on the religious celebration on the day of call.
